An optical pigtail FC/UPC is a short optical fiber cable segment that has an FC connector at one end of the segment and UPC polishing, which ensures minimal losses and reflections. FC-type connectors are widely used in optical networks (PON), telecommunications networks, and measurement instruments for reliable optical connections in demanding environments.

The primary purpose of an optical pigtail is to terminate optical cables when connecting or replacing telecommunications equipment. The free end is connected to a corresponding cable either through fusion splicing or by using an optical coupler.
